  • #001. Untitled

    Background
The artwork shows simple, free hand drawing of the great mosque of Mecca. The largest, and Islam’s holiest place in the world, which surrounds the Kaaba (This is a cubed structure with black fabric). Muslims face the Kaaba when performing Salah (obligatory daily prayers) five times a day.

This was created using a very small Wacom tablet in 2007. The free flowing marks have been layered using Black, Greys and White. The solid and robust structure in person, and this free hand drawing may invoke the same feelings to most. Peace and harmony.

This artwork was awarded 1st prize following an artwork call out to the local community (Leicester, UK), by studionAme in 2017.

    Application
This was about feeling, and making art from the ‘Gut’. There is no deep theory or monologue. The colours and shape lend itself to the subject matter. The dynamic and organised chaos sits within my inner self.

    Appraisal
I would not make any changes of note. Using the colours has restricted me to using this on White background only.

  • #002. Meridian Newspaper 2001

    Background
This project was inspired by 9/11 events in New York. I wanted to communicate in a visual way, the direct conflict between East and West. The information presented in this 22 sided Newspaper captures the thoughts and ideas of the opposing parties. It was important for me to stay neutral, so the content was driven by Amnesty International. The newspaper is in 2 sections. East V’s West, or order and chaos. Its up to you to decide who is right and/or wrong.

    Application
I read through approximately 30,000 words of 9/11 reports. My biggest challenge was to find a channel to encapsulate this information. The newspaper was suggested by my tutor at the time (Paul Wilson). The earliest version was created using Flip chart paper and printed through an A1 inkjet printer. The seam was put together using magic tape. I still have the first copy.

The newspaper was reprinted professionally in 2018.

    Appraisal
There are no obvious changes I would have made. 9 months of data and preparation was dissected to visualisation.

The paper was exhibited in 2018 using Newspaper rods.

17 years later, I now have the opinion that the West is Chaos and East is Orderly. What I mean by this is West have no idea, plan to counter Terrorism. Whereas, the opposition have a direct agenda. Clear for us all to see and witness.

  • #003. Communication

    Background
This project looks at different ways of communicating the same message. The information is about declaration of faith ‘Shahada’ using the following modes of delivery.

    Sign Language
    Lipreading
    Braille
    Bar Code
    Hex Colour Value
    Binary Code

    Application
Due to the diversity of the communication methods. I needed to find a way to group the project together. 8 Inch tablets were used and offset behind a router cut panel.

    Sign Language and Lipreading
This was a simple looped video

    Braille
Text was converted into Braille. This was manufactured professionally on White paper.

    Bar Code
Text was converted to Bar Code in sticker format. The Barcode was applied to perspex panel.

    Hex Colour Value
The message was converted to numbers. With this the information, I ran the details in Photoshop.

    Binary Code
This was one of the hardest projects to bring to fruition. I converted the text to Binary code (1 and 0) and presented in Matrix (Film) style.

    Appraisal
One major issue I had was getting the device to charge and ready for display. Power points are needed nearby.
