Final Call St Matthew’s
Yesterday was the final day for the St Matthew’s community to submit once piece of their work. The artwork will be displayed in the ‘St Matthew’s Art show 2019’ held at the end of this month. There will be a variety of skills on display.
The process has been energising for me personally. I have got to meet, many new people. Some brand new to the art scene, and others that have gone through the art cycle.
We are on the final stages now. The process of setting up, organising and promoting begins. The process starts next week.00
I completed the workshops (Thursday 01.08.2019 and Friday 02.08.2019) for the local school.
For me it was important to relay the message, that Art not just painting. It can be more than that. The class was setup to embrace their feelings, styles and development. We looked at using different materials. Foil, string, buttons, straw etc. The exercise was to develop and nature the childs inner creativity. I think we were successful in our approach.
There is not much I could have done to make it a fuller experience. I possibly, could have had snacks, but that would eat into my limited time.. And also, open up health and safety concerns.
Images to follow in my next post.
Workshop Day 1 and 2
I had an amazing time doing my first Art workshop with the local school. The 2 hour sessions were held over 2 days. Thursday 26.07.2019 and Friday 27.07.2019. The workshops included introductions, brief history about studionAme, some art and craft activities, and studio tour. I was blown away by how bright the children were. The questions, the engagement among themselves was very satisfying.
We made a Lions head, using paper plate, coloured cards and a little bit of luck. Here are some picture from the day.
We worked on exploring abstract style in painting. After selecting an image or a subject of their choice. The chicldren were encouraged to segment the background. Here are some pictures from the event.
St Matthew’s Art Show 2019
I spent a lot of time doing promotional work for the Art show. I put up 50 posters in the communal area of each block of flat. The process of putting them up was much easier than posting leaflets through the letterbox. I did meet with the housing officer, who did prompt me on them. Fortunately, he gave me a slap on the wrist and we have come to an agreement that I will need to remove the posters after the dates have passed.
I was meeting with the local St Matthew’s community distributing leaflets. This time I was equipped with a fully professional banner. I really enjoyed meeting new people. My sales pitch towards the end was near perfection.
Here are some pictures of me interacting with the local community.
As part of the funding project, Saima has completed 1 of 3. The Crochet workshops were held every Tuesday for 2 hours. The vision was to create something for the late Austin Jackson. Here are some images.
Just got my Google Nest hub delivered today. I am almost ready to move my PC into the office space. I just need to work out some time to fix the additional desks.
The What Cabin School Workshop has been finalised for 25 and 26 July and 1 and 2 of August. Both fall on Friday, I am really looking forward to working with 40 students.
Any other business
I will be doing the St Matthew’s Art show 2019 promotional push tomorrow. I have only received one piece of work from a local artist. I hope the 400 leaflets and the banner come good, and get some much needed attention.
