This particulate blog is not a designer or an artist. I have decided to group together all my favourite TV programmes.
Luckily I found these on YouTube. I may have already referenced some previous occasions.
This Is Modern Art
Hands down the most important and influential documentary I have viewed. Re-watched this many times over.
Journeys Into The Outside
A really important and dynamic documentary. Jarvis, was all the rage back in late 90’s, so I was hooked into watching the series after the first episode.
I will not spoil the series, but the once where the guy just builds an abstract object and paints it in vibrant colours sticks to mind.
What Do Artsist Do All Day? – Jake & Dinos Chapman
I love the insight into how artists work within the industry.
I chose this episode, because I like the Chapman brothers understanding and communication of their work. I am not a fan of their art though, but I appreciate their direction.
Continuing with the series about influences and artist . I have chosen Mark Rothko as the standout painter.
For Some history about Mark link
I love the colours, the format, the size, the interaction between the colours. There are so many ways to translate his delivery.
His work influences a lot of my graphic design. My eyes are drawn to the balance and relationship between positive and negative space. If I am not mistaken, the earliest graphic design book I read, also referenced Rothko.
Here are some lovely images I found online.
I hope to finalise the fourteenth artwork today.
I have created this work before, but this time the process seems a lot easier and smoother. This may be because I did not feel burdened by time frame. The extra space allows me to breath and refine my craft.
Here are some pictures, showing the process only.
I have not decided when I will be displaying the work. It is always good to get a collection and body of work together.
I have been in contact with Ben again, to see if we could apply for ACE funding again.
My application was declined previously. Some notable comments and feedback I received, were my lack of experience and context.
I believe, the solo exhibition and local workshop could help boost my new application and outlook.
The new chapter starts here.
It has always been in the back of my mind to do a series/blogs on artists that have influenced my work.
There are so many, so it would be better to break them down individually. First up…
There is no point giving you a synopsis, when it can be found easily on Wiki. Here is the link
I just love his style of work. The balance between positive and negative space in the majority of his works helps add synergy. You can see, the relationship between new technology and graphic design is self evident. Here are some pictures from his book (Maeda @ media), he makes a binary entity look fluid.
His website s neat too.
